Wednesday, January 19th, 2011: 5/365

My week on the island so far has been especially stressful it seems. Trying to get all moved in and all of our ducks in a row plus starting work and continuing my studies for my Masters is a lot. My socializing and my physical health have taken a back seat, even though I promised myself I would get in shape while down here for the second time. So when a friend asked if we could go for a walk at sunset I strapped on my leg weights and walked out the door. I had never walked much in Lance Aux Epines so I was surprised to see this beautiful secluded beach when we walked by it.

Though it appears rather dark, the vivid colors of the sunset against the boats and the palm frond will forever be burned into my memory. When the runners passed it made it that much prettier. 

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011: 4/365

With my new opportunities to make a difference on this island I am now in need of an easier mode of transport. After talking with some fellow SO's I have decided to rent this scooter. Livingston let me drive it before I rented it so that I was sure I wanted to rent it and so far I have done great. I just have to remember: Left Side, Left Side, Left Side, Left Side!

Monday, January 17th, 2011: 3/365

I have been given the opportunity to tutor two teenagers who have had quite the educational experience. Both are willing, ready and able to learn and I am so excited to be part of their education at this point as I feel I can connect with them, gain their respect and teach them what they need to know. The live on a gorgeous part of the island that is secluded enough that you would never guess there was a golf course behind the bustling road below. This is a panoramic photo of one of the roads by their house. It was taken on my first day of working with the two of them.  

Saturday, January 16th, 2011 - Hash Day: 2/365

Today, Palak, Allie and Rachele lost their Hash virginity's. The hash-master seemed rather proud, though we were the last ones to finish this particularly difficult trail. It was fun to watch the one's who set the hash be punished at the end for making it such a difficult path. Don't get me wrong, I love a lil dirt under my nails and enjoy tromping through the jungle as much as the next gal. We all really enjoyed it and we enjoyed the Caribs after the hash even more!

Friday, January 15th 2011: 1/365

Upon our return to Grenada, we have seen so many decorations celebrating Grenada. It appears these flags are everywhere in preparation for the Grenadian Independence Celebration. This is a picture of the main round-about by L'ance Aux Epines where we live.

New Blog

So clearly I haven't been keeping up like a good little blogger.....then I heard an intriguing idea: a 365 blog. The idea is that you take a picture everyday and add it to your blog with a post. The post doesn't have to be long or especially deep but something about your day. So today I start the blog portion of my 365 blog....though I started taking pics for it a few days ago, again not a good little blogger but I am going to try harder this time.....

Forward

Today, I got into the Mental Health Counseling masters program at Capella University. It was a really nice reminder of the fact that even though I'm living on the island and living on island time, I am still working toward my own goals and not standing still in life.

Tonight's sunset was gorgeous. It rained earlier today so then sky was painted with purples, blues, oranges and pinks. Light bounced off all the clouds and it was really a sight to behold. It was then I had to remind myself that I will get to see 100 sunsets like this while here and I should enjoy every one.

We went into St. George's (the city) today. We found a really old library and a used book store. We also bought the spices we need to make dinner tonight. It feels really nice to show other people around the island too. Kirsten had gone with Allie and I and she had never been to St. George's before so we got to show her all around.


...all in all, it was another fantastic day on the island.
